The only thing I’m concerned about now, that I didn’t think about before, is the heat. Heat and sunlight (and cheap AF GM interior materials) are the reasons all Pontiac Sunbirds (except mine and maybe 1 or 2 others) have dashboards like this:

Kinja'd!!!

I hate the way they raise up over the radio. It looks gross. Mine has only done it a tiny bit due to it being largely garage kept and hardly driven all its life (it’s a 1990 with 58k on it). As you all know, I plan to continue that by keeping it in my new garage (pictured here), but it’ll get hot in there during the summer.

Here’s mine, for reference:

Kinja'd!!!

The previous garage of my friend’s that I’ve been storing it in has a dirt floor and sliding wood doors, so it isn’t weathertight and has more ventilation than this garage will. There is some ventilation here, but not as much. And, it’s metal as opposed to the old garage that is wood and concrete.

I’d just hate to look in on the car one day and find my dash popped up.

Any suggestions to prevent that?

Solar powered fan?

Get a vent.

Kinja'd!!!

Should help it from getting too hot.

The only thing that is coming to mind is a few rolls of fiberglass insulation and an exhaust/fan venting solution.  But it looks like no power so like Cash Rewards said, solar?

Well, consider that even at 120-130 degrees, it’s still much cooler on the interior than if you parked the car outside with direct exposure and greenhouse effect . And zero UV rays.

So even without ventilation, it’s a step in the right direction.

Even a couple wall-mounted bathroom exhaust fans would keep things flowing. You could hook them up to thermostats — our attic exhaust fan is wired that way, so it only comes on at 95 or 100.

Line the walls and roof on the inside with radiant barrier. It’s pretty cheap, and will cut way down on the amount of heat absorbed into the building.

Yeah I would try to put some insulation and maybe a solar fan like mentioned below. I also am wondering about that floor. It really doesn't look like it would hold up very well over time, so you might want to invest in a sturdier one.

Paint the roof white, polystyrene board and spray foam seal the interior, coat in drywall if needed. Vent on roof sounds good.

It is treated wood with 1-foot runners. It’s engineered to hold much more than the weight of a J-Body car.

That’s probably the route I’m going to go.

It’s cheap, it’s easy, and it’ll make a big difference.

You could always add roof baffles and a ridgeline vent. It’s what I’m putting into my building.

Kinja'd!!!

You might have to cut off the top 1" of the exterior metal sheathing and a couple of inches off the ridge , but doing this will allow the heat from the roof to vent out the top while keeping the shed weather-tight. They make a version specifically for metal roofs.

Kinja'd!!!

Then add radiant barrier to the inside of the walls and below the baffles on the roof as shop-teacher said.

Ok the actual flooring over the runners looked like some sort of composite board so I was a little concerned there. I was just thinking of heat cycles and moisture from dew rotting it from below, but if it is treated it should be fine

Like shop-teacher said, insulate and maybe consider adding vent. Also, you could paint the roof white.

Awesome garage though - did it come as-is, floor and everything?

I put an attic fan in my house that turns on whenever it's 90° or higher in there. Made a huge difference would go that route if you have power out there. That and insulation either way and keeping the door open an inch or two in the summer.
